The Optum Center for Research and Innovation (OCRI) is seeking a Principal Data Analyst that will work integrally with the pillar leads as a primary resource for the design, collection, analysis, presentation and publication of priority research projects. The Principal Data Analyst will report to the Research Director of OCRI.
The Principal Data Analyst will have both an active individual contributor role and serve as infrastructure-specific lead to help develop and evaluate impactful clinical programs, increase efficiency, and ensure quality. Ideal candidates will have expertise in SAS or SQL programming to build analytic datasets from administrative claims and other health care databases, and experience in health services research/health economic and outcomes methodologies.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Develop methods, perform statistical analysis, and generate reports to answer research questions
- Provide input into the development of project-specific study protocols (or abbreviated analysis plans)
- Demonstrate the ability to manage all analytic/programming aspects of a research study from design development to completion
- Support the data and analytics team as a data and programming expert
- Assist with manuscript development
- Perform data quality control checks on code and deliverables
- Co-lead our efforts to develop standard programs and related processes to efficiently build analytic datasets to support program evaluations and health care research

Required Qualifications:
- 8+ years of experience programming in SAS or SQL
- 8+ years of experience supporting health services, health economics, and outcomes research
- 8+ years of experience with administrative claims data, EHR/EMR data, or complex relational health care databases required. Preference will be given to candidates with experience using large administrative claims assets from health plan/payers
- 8+ years of experience establishing and developing standard process and programs to improve quality and increase efficiency of research using real-world data
- 8+ years of experience working with 100% Medicare data
- Proficiency in executing multi-step data management and analysis tasks including creating data dictionaries and specification documents from research protocols
- Demonstrated ability to recognize and solve technical problems
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced team-oriented environment
- Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities
- Proven solid organizational skills and attention to detail
- Proven highly motivated and able to work independently
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in development of analytic plans and protocols
- Experience with CMS’s Virtual Research Data Center (VRDC)
- Demonstrated ability to participate in project design and interpretation

Residents Only: The salary range for this role is $104,700 to $190,400 annually. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
