As a Software Engineer at Freeform, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of cutting-edge projects using the latest and greatest in Rust, Kubernetes, DataFusion, Parquet, Apache Arrow, WASM, and more, in the pursuit of developing a modern software stack to orchestrate Freeform's fleet of autonomous metal 3D printing factories. Our software team develops algorithmically and computationally complex solutions up and down the stack, from control software to big data processing software to graphics/geometry pipelines. As such, we're looking for software engineers with a strong foundation in computer science fundamentals who enjoy learning new technologies on the job.
We work in a tight-knit, cross-disciplinary environment where software engineers, hardware engineers, and physicists come together to solve highly challenging, real-world problems. The right candidate will be intellectually curious, team-oriented, and passionate about software engineering.
Responsibilities: - Design and develop software across Freeform's software ecosystem including hardware control and automation, signal and data processing, and graphics/geometry pipelines
- Work with process, electrical, and mechanical engineers to integrate physics-based control algorithms into production software
- Improve and scale out high-rate data acquisition, storage, and retrieval systems
- Expand testing, continuous integration, and continuous deployment (CI/CD) support throughout the software engineering team
- Implement elegant and innovate software solutions that enable Freeform to scale its tech stack at a global level
Basic Qualifications: - Bachelor's or advanced degree in computer science or computer engineering
- 1+ years of professional (post-graduation) experience developing production software using Rust, C++, Python, Go, Java, C, or C#
Nice to Have: - 3+ years of professional software development experience
- Production-level coding experience in Rust or C++
- Experience writing software for automation systems, robotics, or similar integrated software-hardware system
- Interested in working on problems that involve hardware acceleration with GPUs and FPGAs
- Interested in working on problems that involve big data, machine learning, and AI
- Experience working at a startup or on a greenfield development project
Location: - We are located in Hawthorne, CA in a 35,000 square foot, state-of-the-art facility featuring large open spaces for team collaboration, R&D, and production, as well as easy access to the 405, 105, and 110 freeways. - As a growing company, the salary range is intentionally wide as we determine the most appropriate package for each individual taking into consideration years of experience, educational background, and unique skills and abilities as demonstrated throughout the interview process. Our intent is to offer a salary that is commensurate for the company's current stage of development and allows the employee to grow and develop within a role.
- In addition to the significant stock option package, the estimated salary range for this role is $100,000-$145,000, inclusive of all levels/seniority within this discipline.
