Golin New York is hiring a media-savvy Senior Associate, Earned Media to drive mainstream and Latino/Hispanic/multicultural-focused media strategy and execution that keeps our clients relevant with top media across these English/Spanish/Bi-lingual verticals. You’ll build strong media relationships and always be on the lookout for opportunities that lead to coverage. You’ll transform corporate milestones and data into compelling stories and craft interesting content that goes beyond the press release. For Latino media, you’ll go beyond translation to focus on transcreation of content to fuel authentic storytelling. You’ll engage with media across a variety of channels, including social media, email, media events and, yes, even a phone call or two. Bilingual capabilities in Spanish is preferred.
What You’ll Do:
- Continually seek out and create opportunities to place stories in media
- Contribute to media strategies to drive rich earned coverage
- Stay ahead of trends by identifying culturally relevant trends, across mainstream and Latino audiences, and create story opportunities from real-time news events
- Develop compelling, media-focused content, ranging from press releases and messaging documents; have capability to translate some materials, like simple messaging or emails, to Spanish (note – full translation capabilities not a requirement)
- Conduct research on relevant media contacts and track competitor announcements across mainstream and Latino verticals
- Build strong relationships with national, regional and trade mainstream/Latino media as well influencers, including writing compelling pitches, in English and Spanish, to journalists
- Work daily with media across multiple channels, including email, social media and phone
- Recommend and track measurement KPIs for earned media and influencer efforts
- Conduct media monitoring
- Participate in and present at client meetings
- Collaborate with teams across multiple disciplines and successfully manage complex, fast-moving and unexpected communications challenges
- Interact with clients to present strategic recommendations addressing challenges and opportunities, as well as in “think on your feet” situations
- Represent the brand at events for media
- Collaborate with agency partners across multiple communication disciplines to integrate on programs
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in PR or journalism, with 1-2 years of related experience – B2B, Ecommerce, or tech clients a plus!
- Proven experience working with media and a strong portfolio of story placements across mainstream and Latino media
- Superior writing and editing skills that can communicate creatively and in an engaging manner; capability to write in Spanish is preferred (note – full translation capabilities not a requirement)
- Understanding of earned media strategy and experience contributing to media plans
- Outstanding interpersonal skills and superior client service skills
- Be proactive and highly motivated; demonstrate the ability and desire to work independently and confidently, but as part of a team
- Be detail oriented with an ability to focus on the larger picture
- Ability to work on multiple programs at once under tight deadlines
- Provide sound counsel and be comfortable providing editorial and response recommendations to clients
- Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with internal and client teams at all levels
- Bilingual Spanish speaker and writer, able to pitch Hispanic media
- Preferred location is New York, and we are open to considering qualified remote candidates in other locations
Salary range: $50,000 – $70,000
Golin has included the base salary range or hourly rate for this role. Actual compensation offered within the range will depend upon, among other factors: a candidate’s skills, qualifications, and experience; actual ranges for current or former employees in the role; and market considerations.
