Posting Expires: 1/7/25 Salary Range: $54,863.22-$73,242.40 General Description and Classification Standards The Atlanta Department of Transportation (ATLDOT) was created to improve how Atlanta manages transportation and its right of way. One of the main goals of the department and the city’s Strategic Transportation Plan is to improve safety on the city’s streets and to improve the experience of pedestrians, transit riders, cyclists, and scooter riders. The GIS Analyst role within ATLDOT’s Strategy & Planning Division will be part of an in-house team that manages internal and external analytics to better leverage data to support the implementation of the strategic plan and improve how the city plans, maintains, and sets policy for its right of way. The GIS Analyst will be responsible for designing, coordinating, and implementing GIS and other geospatial analytics projects across ATLDOT, with other departments within the City of Atlanta, and with partner agencies. Responsibilities may also include data collection, spatial analysis, mapping and visually representing data, and managing a well-curated library of spatial data layers, among others. This is an intermediate-level position capable of carrying out most assignments under general direction. The GIS Analyst will support various initiatives, suggest new and innovative approaches to leveraging GIS assets, and provide substantive feedback and constructive input on the establishment of new/different procedures, workflows, and projects. Using web GIS tools such as web maps, dashboards, and field apps, the GIS analyst will help communicate key findings to internal and external stakeholders including strategic team members, senior leadership, partner organizations, and the public. Supervision Received Will work under the general supervision of the Director of Data & Analytics with support from other senior GIS staff members. May perform other duties as assigned. · Supports the execution of GIS and advanced analytics projects focused on improving transportation infrastructure and policies impacting the safety, equity, and mobility of City of Atlanta residents and visitors · Works closely with in-house transportation planners, engineers, and project managers to provide geospatial insights related to department initiatives such as Vision Zero, Safe Routes to School, and Capital Delivery · Creates maps, reports, spreadsheets, and other GIS deliverables in printed and/or digital formats · Works with transportation asset data including roads, sidewalks, signs, bike lanes, and traffic signals · Analyzes spatial data such as historical crashes, high risk/high injury corridors, demographics, vehicle volumes/speeds, and shared micromobility trips to discover patterns and trends in road safety and connectivity · Participates in the cleaning and quality control/assurance of datasets and implements well-constructed schemas (fields, domains, etc.) for geodatabases, hosted feature layers, and other GIS data types · Creates dashboards, webapps, webmaps, surveys, and other web-based applications based on user specifications and needs · Uses a variety of geospatial tools to join, overlay, cluster, and otherwise analyze data within GIS platforms · Identifies potential locations for roadway safety improvements and prioritizes existing and planned projects by scoring asset conditions, crash risk, disadvantaged community status, and other factors throughout the City · Informs the life-cycle management of transportation assets using GIS software to record, manage, and analyze spatial data Knowledge, Skills & Abilities *This is a partial listing of necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job successfully. Minimum of 2 years of GIS support work experience, or any equivalent combination of education, experience, or training that provides the required combination of knowledge and skills. Preferred Education & ExperienceMaster's degree in GIS, geography, data science, or a related field. 3-4 years of progressively advanced GIS support work experience, or any equivalent combination of education, experience, or training that provides the required combination of knowledge and skills. Additional skills and experience in programming, statistics, data visualization, graphics, engineering, and/or database management, as represented by proficiencies in languages and/or softwaresuites including Python, SQL, R, Tableau, Power BI, CAD, the Adobe Creative Cloud.
