The anticipated salary range for this role is between $73,000.00 and $93,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. Role Description The Data Management Department of the Chief Data Officer (CDO) works with group companies and functional areas across Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation Americas Division on a wide range of initiatives that ensure the control, quality, and availability of business data supporting front office efforts, data analytics, management decisions, and regulatory control. Within this group the Reference Data team oversees the identification, consistent use, and control of enterprise and local Reference Data in accordance with the firm’s Data Governance framework. Reference Data are those critical, predefined classification and coding schemes used to organize business data for consistent handling, decision making and regulatory reporting. The Reference Data Analyst is an entry-level position that supports the efforts of the Reference Data Governance team in establishing governance around reference data and in transitioning SMBC from current state to Data as a Service (DaaS). The successful candidate will have research, problem-solving, and organizational skills with the ability to multi-task. He/She will take ownership, works independently, and can communicate and collaborate effectively within the team and across a wide range of stakeholders from business to technical, front to back office, management to front-line staff. Role Objectives Assists in team efforts and projects: Analyzes reference data in current state, identifies patterns and inconsistencies in data across sources and targets, and documents findings. Ensure the accuracy, completeness and integrity of reference data, and participate in data cleanup efforts and status tracking. Assists with data requirements documentation, testing validation, and support for a strategic reference data platform. Research external authoritative sources of reference data. Manages updates to reference data sets. Organizes and maintains key documentation and project deliverables. Gathers requirements for team’s key transformational efforts and participate in reference data project delivery. Tracks the business’ compliance to reference data governance requirements. Tracks and facilitate the resolution of issues involving reference data use and quality. Manages the ongoing accuracy of key reference data terms and metadata in the firm’s data governance catalog. Creates presentation and training materials. Within all efforts and with all user groups, educates and reinforces the firm’s data governance framework. Role Objectives: Interpersonal Has experience using automated tools to extract data from primary and secondary sources for filtering, comparison, and analysis to identify issues. Has coding experience in writing and understanding SQL queries and stored procedures. Has participated in data implementation efforts with exposure to relational database concepts, ETL fundamentals, transaction processing, and testing protocols. Shows an understanding of data management concepts – data quality, data lineage, data lifecycle, master/reference data management, metadata management. Has strong analytic, problem solving and logical reasoning skills with attention to detail and the ability to multi-task. Shows strong interpersonal and communications skills that will enable them to support internal clients, build effective relationships, communicate reference data concepts, and contribute to greater governance efforts. Can digest complexity while maintaining an understanding of the “big picture” of business needs and strategic direction. Is a team player with a process-driven mindset who is energized by a collaborative, rapidly changing enterprise. Qualifications and Skills BA/BS degree and strong academic record. Background in finance (ideally in banking). Experience with data analysis and reporting tools such as Alteryx and Power BI. Knowledge of master data management across Customer and Reference Data Domains and experience with market vendors (ex: Informatica Intelligent Data Management Cloud). Will have had exposure to a large corporate setting focused on the use of and management of master/reference data. Exposure to large transformational initiatives. Willing to work a hybrid home/office schedule with an office based in White Plains NY. Able to travel as needed to SMBC offices in New York City and Harborside New Jersey.
