As a Manufacturing Engineer on the Ample team, you will play a key role in validating and scaling our operations and products. Your responsibilities will include specifying and commissioning equipment, and establishing and optimizing process parameters. You will collaborate with internal teams, external vendors, and technology partners to develop processes from concept to product introduction. Additionally, you will lead the creation of advanced assembly lines and automation cells to produce next-generation battery technology with top-quality and efficiency in a safe and ergonomic environment.
What You’ll Do:
- Improve current R&D production processes and develop high-volume production methods for key subsystems.
- Support equipment ramp-up, troubleshoot issues, and manage preventative maintenance programs.
- Assist operations and maintenance teams with routine production tasks and oversee continuous improvement projects.
- Collaborate with design engineers to provide input for production scaling.
- Design and develop new assembly processes with comprehensive documentation.
- Standardize processes and implement metrics and best practices.
- Work with Quality and Test teams to deliver robust, cost-effective end-to-end processes.
- Set and drive improvements to achieve annual operational targets.
- Design volume manufacturing equipment, including conveyance systems, lift assists, jigs, fixtures, trolleys, and robot end-effectors.
- Develop equipment specifications and requirements based on product constraints.
- Lead Kaizen events to optimize assembly processes and suggest design changes for future products.
- Conduct equipment and manufacturing process design reviews and provide guidance.
- Manage equipment suppliers through all project phases.
- Coordinate with various disciplines, including process, mechanical, electrical, and support teams, as well as project managers and manufacturing representatives.
- Participate in construction and commissioning activities, serving as the technical point of contact.
- Draft and manage equipment qualification protocols.
What You’ll Bring:
Manufacturing process and equipment design experience in the following areas are preferred:
- Fully automated assembly line operation, root cause analysis, troubleshooting, and process control experience
- Experience working with PLC systems, HMIs, and robots in a manufacturing environment
- Experience working with CAD design software - SolidWorks and PLM software
- Determine the best options for process improvement tactics
- Experience in designing and improving mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical control systems
- Working knowledge of robotics (6-axis, Gantry, and/or SCARA), pneumatics, servo motors, motion controllers, PLC and PC-based control systems
- Understands machine qualification including calibration, correlation, capability, repeatability and reproducibility
- Knowledgeable in crafting machine qualification requirements, design of experiments and failure analysis
- Develop and introduce standardized operating procedures
- Support the Engineering Change process to develop and deliver modifications and changes to maintain or improve the safe and reliable operation of our assembly lines
- Demonstrated capability to influence, negotiate and facilitate buy‐in with a variety of stakeholders
- Identify and implement new technologies, specification of requirements, Capex justification, planning and implementation.
- Apply Lean Manufacturing, 5S and Six Sigma tools and methodology throughout the manufacturing facility and processes
Experience in factory design, layout, and simulation areas would be a plus, including:
- 2 - 4 years of manufacturing engineering experience
- Experience in 2D CAD tools such as Autocad and other simulation tools such as Arena.
- Experience in rapid prototyping with FDM and SLA 3D printing
- Experience working with QMS, quality tracking (Jira), and confluence
- Six Sigma Black Belt certification
- Experience working in a lean manufacturing environment
- Experience setting up new manufacturing processes
- Cross-functional team environment experience preferred
- Proven ability to self-manage and deliver on time to budget.
- Experience working with measurement tools, power tools, and hand tools
