Job Overview:
We are looking for a Senior Flight Test Instrumentation Engineer (FTIE)/Technician to join the Flight Test group at Overair. The candidate would be well versed in test instrumentation, test planning, test design and test setup.
The FTIE would own the instrumentation on both system test rigs as well as the flight test vehicles. This includes sensor selection as well as maintaining the calibration records and databases. As a member of the Flight Test group, you will be working closely with the cognizant design engineers and analysts to validate and verify various systems and vehicle performance.
This role requires the candidate to thrive in a high paced environment and be comfortable with the design, development, and test life cycle of rapid aerospace R&D. To be successful in this role, you should be capable of leading collaborative projects to completion with minimal oversight.
This role will include interfacing with engineering management, certification authorities, and fellow engineers and analysts, so strong communication and interpersonal skills are required.
Travel to the Victorville test site for extended periods of time will be required and will be managed in accordance with the Overair travel policy.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Perform mechanical assembly, maintenance, and support on prototype aircraft.
- Perform aircraft inspections per company procedures.
- Compile the required documentation and paperwork in accordance with company and FAA procedures.
- Document and communicate aircraft deficiencies, and work with the engineering teams to correct them.
- Contribute to flight test success as part of the ground crew.
- Maintain and operate required ground support equipment.
- Help develop maintenance manuals and any other supporting documentation necessary to operate and maintain the vehicle.
- Compliance with Overair safety, corporate, and organizational operating procedures.
- Operate in a clean and orderly manner.
Required Qualifications:
- 4+ years of systems and/or flight test experience including experience at Sr. Test engineer roles.
- BS in Aerospace, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering/Technology, Computer Science, or relevant fields.
- Demonstrated comprehensive understanding of engineering fundamentals in the flight test environment.
- Extensive understanding of systems and flight test procedures, safety, and culture.
- Comprehensive knowledge of instrumentation used in both ground and flight test environments.
- Ability to install strain gauges, accelerometers, thermocouples, and various other sensors.
- Understand the functioning of databusses and how to collect data from databusses.
- Experience with data collection methodology and using data processing tools.
- Experience working with LabVIEW, Matlab and Python.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience with R&D flight tests of UAV/UAS and/or piloted vehicles.
- Experience in EVTOL testing through the design and development cycle.
- Experience with specifying and integrating instrumentation in the flight test environment.
- Previous work with high voltage systems and safety protocols.
- Exposure to Systems Engineering and Test including waterfall and V-model archetypes.
- Experience conducting flight characteristics and performance testing in support of FAA certification.

Job Type: Full-time
Overair expects to pay: $130,000 - $170,000 per year. Your level and the compensation package offered will be determined by location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
