Role Essentials
As the Shipboard Recruiter, you will play a vital role in recruiting and staffing for our US Fleet, ensuring smooth crew transitions and maintaining a strong workforce on board. Your responsibilities will include sourcing, onboarding, and supporting the team’s personnel needs.
We’re looking for someone who is highly motivated and skilled at developing and executing strategies across multiple channels to find the right candidates for our current and future hiring needs. You should be an excellent communicator, comfortable interacting with people at all levels and across various candidate profiles. You’ll thrive as an energetic, confident, and collaborative team player with solid technical skills, particularly in Microsoft Office 365.
Role Responsibilities
- Works with Hiring Managers: Partners with hiring managers to understand the skills and requirements needed for different roles and helps create clear job descriptions. And leads weekly meetings with hiring managers to provide and receive updates on requisitions and overall needs.
- Collaborates with Shipboard HR: Works closely with the Shipboard HR Manager to ensure the vessels always have the necessary crew.
- Manages Applications: Reviews resumes and applications and handles all communication with job applicants.
- Conducts Interviews: Leads video screenings, information sessions, and interviews with job applicants, and schedules further interviews with hiring managers.
- Oversees Background Checks: Initiates and monitors background checks and follows up with references when needed.
- Prepares Job Offers: Drafts employment offers and coordinates training plans for new hires.
- Builds Recruitment Channels: Develops and maintains various recruitment channels, including professional networks, maritime academies, hospitality schools, and culinary institutes.
- Innovates Recruitment Strategies: Generates new ideas to attract skilled and high-performing officers and crew for the company’s vessels.
- Fill-In Management: Keep a detailed database of fill-in candidates, including their availability, qualifications, and past performance. And efficiently match fill-in candidates with available roles, taking into account their availability, skills, previous performance, and the needs of the operation.
- Onboarding Coordination: Take charge of the entire onboarding process for all shipboard positions, from when an offer is accepted to the new hire’s arrival on board.
- Document Management: Use platforms like SharePoint, Rippling, Lever, NSE (Nautical Systems Enterprise) to carefully organize and manage all staffing, onboarding, and compliance documents.
Minimum Qualifications
- 2+ years of recruiting experience OR 2+ years of personnel-related experience in maritime operations.
- 2+ years of experience with Microsoft Office Suite, and a demonstrated ability to quickly learn and adapt to new systems.
- Ability to work autonomously and problem solve with little data while remaining in close communication with your team.
- Skilled at identifying staffing issues, analyzing problems, and developing effective solutions to optimize recruitment processes.
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse audiences and team members.
- Must be able to work onsite in our Seattle offices 2-3 days per week
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in recruitment or HR roles, preferably in a fast-paced environment with an emphasis on full-cycle recruitment.
- Experience in the maritime industry with a solid understanding of licenses and credentials in the industry.
- Proficiency in using recruitment software and document management platforms such as Applicant Tracking Systems and Payroll Software.
- Proficiency in utilizing technology to analyze recruitment metrics, track candidate sourcing channels, and identify trends to inform strategic decision-making in recruitment processes.
- Strong networking abilities with the capacity to build and maintain professional relationships within the recruitment field or maritime industry, facilitating access to a broader talent pool and industry insights.

COMPENSATION STATEMENT
Lindblad Expeditions determines the pay for positions using local, national, and industry-specific survey data. We evaluate external equity and the cost of labor/prevailing wage index in the relative marketplace for jobs directly comparable to jobs within our company. Our posted salary range is based on national data and may be refined for a candidate’s region/town/cost of living.
For new hires, we strive to make competitive offers allowing the new employee room for future growth. Salaries will be based on the applicant’s location, level of experience, education, and specialized knowledge and skills. An employee/candidate with a stronger skill set will receive higher pay.
