Salary Range: 25 to 32 (Currency: USD) (Pay period: per-hour-wage)
OVERVIEW
The Process Technician has the primary role to ensure the testing and development in the Pilot Plant is successful. This individual must approach all tasks in a meticulous and careful manner with little margin of error while ensuring preparation and correct set-up of materials and equipment involved in the repetitions/variables for testing at Beyond Meat’s pilot plant. The Process Technician will become the expert in the R&D team in machine operation and maintenance requirements. This role will collaborate with the R&D and engineering team members as well as the Operations team at Beyond Meat.
TASKS, DUTIES, & GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare necessary components (i.e. raw materials) for a successful experiment
- Assist Pilot Plant team and Engineers with preparing samples and batches for testing
- Record ingredient lot codes for tracking purposes within batching applications
- Measure, weigh, and batch specific test ingredients in a very precise and careful manner
- Assemble, run, disassemble, and sanitize equipment used in testing of Beyond Meat products
- Assist with shipping and receiving of incoming raw materials and outgoing finished products
- Assist in maintaining adequate ingredient supply within warehouse/batching area
- Assist with Process Engineers testing which may include operating equipment, taking data, pre-weighing, batching, etc.
- Assist process engineers with communication and guidance of installation contractors in the installation of new/rented Beyond Meat equipment
- Wash equipment, measuring devices, and other pilot/lab tools
- Calibrate equipment and meters
- Serve as backup to production floor if necessary
- Work with Pilot Lab team on proactively improving process improvement program
- Write-up standard operating procedures (SOPs), safety SOPs and Preventive Maintenance SOPs for new machinery acquired by Beyond Meat
- Adhere to all facility policies concerning safety, security, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)
- Performs other duties, as assigned, and follows through on requests in a timely manner
QUALIFICATIONS
- Education, Technical Skills, and/or Previous Experience:
- High School degree/GED mandatory with 1-2 years of proven work experience at product development lab, pilot plant, or commercial capacity plant. Experience in a food and/or beverage manufacturing environment a plus
- Demonstrate knowledge of mechanical assembly, machinery operation, and material preparation
- Experience operating mixing equipment for liquids, powders, and thick paste-like materials
- Experience batching complex formulations
- Strong mathematical skills with excellent problem solving and equipment troubleshooting skills
- Ability to multi-task with strong attention to detail
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Flexibility to work any/all shifts to support a high growth work environment
- Position requires the ability to stand or sit for prolonged periods, climb, kneel, bend, and occasionally lift up to 25-50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodations
- Position located in a mix of typical laboratory, pilot lab and office environments, and requires a tolerance for high worker traffic, close quarters, noise, odors, dust, and varying room temperatures and lighting
- Able to work in a cold environment for extended periods of time while maintaining food safety protocols
