Our chip-based solution combines biochemistry with state-of-the-art integrated photonics, electronics, and microfluidics.
We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled Lab Automation Engineer to join our team. The primary responsibility of this role is to manage the setup, maintenance, troubleshooting, and improvement of hardware stations used for biomedical assay development which are based on liquid handling robots such as the Opentrons OT-2 automation platform. The ideal candidate will have experience in both mechanical and software troubleshooting and will be responsible for operating the systems efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
- Configure and maintain assay development hardware stations.
- Contribute to the development of calibration protocols and perform routine maintenance and repairs.
- Diagnose mechanical and software issues and drive issues to resolution.
- Collaborate with engineering and software teams on system improvements that minimize downtime and improve performance.
- Operate assay development hardware stations efficiently and accurately as per standard operating procedures.
- Train and support scientists and research associates in preparing and conducting automation runs.
- Document and report any operational issues or anomalies.
- Evaluate and recommend opportunities for process improvements and automation enhancements.
- Assist in the development and implementation of new automation protocols.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related field.
- Experience controlling robotic equipment in a research lab environment.
- Strong mechanical and software troubleshooting skills.
- Familiarity with using software languages such as Python for instrument control.
- Familiarity with assay development and biology laboratory protocols in a BSL-2 lab environment.
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in a medtech or biotech startup environment.
- Proven experience in operating and troubleshooting automation platforms from vendors such as Opentrons, Tecan, and Hamilton.
- Proficient in writing and optimizing Python scripts for instrument control.
- Familiarity using Git for software version control.
- Hands-on experience with 3D printing technology and CAD design for prototyping and custom part fabrication.
