About the Central Brooklyn Food Cooperative

The Central Brooklyn Food Coop is a 100% working member-owned-and-operated food store with

membership open to all. Our mission is to utilize our collective strength to ensure access to affordable and

fresh food while centering the Black, low-to-moderate-income communities of Central Brooklyn.

CBFC is here to center the long-term residents and communities of BedStuy/Crown Heights and collectively

improve local food options. Our commitment to Food Sovereignty affirms and reclaims the power of food by

CBFC, alongside our partners within the Central Brooklyn Food Democracy Project, has won a

groundbreaking bid with the City to open a retail location in Bed Stuy, Brooklyn. This project, named Steps at

Saratoga, has an estimated 5 year timeline and we're expected to open doors for the coop in 2028. Current

planning is actively underway.

Position Summary

The Central Brooklyn Food Coop (CBFC) is seeking a dedicated and dynamic Project Manager to join our team

and contribute to a transformative effort to establish a Black-led food cooperative. As the Project Manager,

you will play a pivotal role in organizing and coordinating various aspects of the initiative, working closely

with community members, stakeholders, and partner organizations. Additionally, this role would be the

external lead for store opening. This position offers a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact on food

justice, economic empowerment, and community development.

Responsibilities

Project Planning and Management

Develop and implement a comprehensive project plan, in collaboration with CBFC Board, using

material from the Strategic Planning Report and 2024 Board Retreat to generate a working timeline

(milestones and deliverables) to open a store in 2028 inclusive of interim projects/activities that lead

up to store opening

Coordinate project activities, ensuring adherence to the established plan and monitoring progress
Collaborate with the CBFC Board and General Membership to set project goals, objectives, and key

performance indicators (KPIs).

Attend at least 2 CBFC monthly meetings (CBFC Board Meeting and CBFC General Meeting) to report

on project timeline and status as well as additional stakeholder meetings, including but not limited to

the Steps at Saratoga project (site for 2028 store opening).

Serve as an ex-officio member of the CBFC Board of Directors

Operational Support

Manage the day-to-day operational decisions with Board support or direction
Assist in developing operational procedures, policies, and guidelines for the food cooperative.
Coordinate an orderly hand-off of responsibilities and orderly transition to Food Co-op General

Manager, when hired

Support the recruitment and training of cooperative members and volunteers
Coordinate logistics for cooperative meetings, training sessions, and other operational activities

Financial Management

Coordinate and collaborate with the CBFC Board, Fundraising, and the Business & Strategy to

leverage resources and funding opportunities that help build strategic partnerships using the CBFC

Decision-making Model.

Monitor project expenses and ensure compliance with funding requirements
Spearhead grant writing and fundraising activities to secure financial resources for the project

Reporting and Evaluation

Prepare monthly progress reports and updates for internal and external stakeholders.
Monitor project outcomes and evaluate the effectiveness of activities.
Identify areas for improvement and recommend adjustments to project strategies and implementation

Qualifications

Proven experience in project management and coordination, community engagement, or related roles.
Strong interest and understanding of food sovereignty, cooperative models, and community-led

initiatives.

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
Demonstrated ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with stakeholders.
Highly organized and detail-oriented, with excellent time management skills.
Proficiency in project management tools and software.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Commitment to social justice, equity, and the empowerment of economically oppressed communities.
Familiarity with Central Brooklyn’'s historical, cultural, and socioeconomic context is strongly

preferred.

Working conditions

Remote work with occasional in-person meetings.

Supervision

This position will be supervised by the CBFC Board of Directors.

Compensation

This is a part-time hourly position with a rate of $55/hr. There are no benefits for this position and the Project

Coordinator would be responsible for paying all associated taxes. With some exceptions, the Project Manager

would be able to set their own schedule provided they are able to meet job expectations. Work associated

with this job will likely occupy around 20 hours per week, with a maximum of 30 hours per week. Please note

that this is a one-year grant-funded role with the possibility of extension. We abide by EEOC laws. Total Maximum Compensation: $79,200.
