Care in Action is a nonprofit, nonpartisan group dedicated to fighting for dignity and fairness for the millions of domestic workers in the United States, most of whom are women of color and immigrant women. Founded in 2016, Care in Action is backed by tens of thousands of nannies, house cleaners, and care workers across the country.

We are hiring motivated individuals as Canvassers in North Carolina to train and prepare for 2024 elections.

Job Title: Canvasser

Location: Mecklenburg County

Compensation: $22 per hour, Travel Stipend, paid sick and vacation time

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Position: Part-time; Temporary (15 hours minimum up to 29 hours maximum/week)

Dates of Employment: ASAP - November 27, 2024

Canvassers will be responsible for going door to door in their local communities, talking with voters about the Care Agenda, and the issues facing their local families most. As Care in Action endorses candidates, hires will transition to educating community members about Care in Action’s endorsed candidates and how to vote, under the immediate supervision of our North Carolina IE Director. Those with previous voter contact experience are encouraged to apply!

Responsibilities and Duties:

Canvass neighborhoods to drop off important election materials and have brief in-person discussion with voters about the care agenda, the importance of voting, and about endorsed candidates.
Track data and complete canvassing shifts on a regular basis
Check-in as needed with your North Carolina IE Director about your progress and team goals
Communicate with your direct supervisor daily about your shifts and availability
Represent the organization(s) professionally and effectively to the public
Phone bank and text bank in the event of inclement weather or specific campaign pushes
Attend compliance trainings and skills trainings related to personal storytelling and other relevant canvassing skills.

Qualifications and Experience:

Have access to a smartphone, computer and reliable internet access for job duration
Access to a car is preferred, but carpooling may be an option
Work well independently towards a team goal
Strong interpersonal skills and outgoing personality
Be goal-oriented, punctual, organized, and have a positive attitude
Believe in the mission and vision of Care in Action
Proficiency in a language other than English is a plus
Previous canvassing experience or direct voter contact is a plus
