Under Vice President Gonzales' leadership, the division enhances university transitions and enriches out-of-class experiences.
The anticipated yearly salary range for this position is $130,000 - $160,000.
About the role:
The Director of Budget for Student Affairs provides strategic leadership and oversight for financial planning, budgeting, accounting, and reporting across the Division of Student Affairs, which consists of 25 units and an operating budget of approximately $100 million. Reporting directly to the Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students, this role manages complex financial operations, including student housing, associated students, and general division operations, while ensuring compliance with CSU system, university, and governmental policies. The Director also oversees financial planning and operations for self-supporting enterprise activities and auxiliary organizations, if applicable, ensuring alignment with regulatory and institutional standards.
As a key advisor to divisional leadership, the Director supervises a team of professional staff and plays a critical role in shaping financial strategy and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Planning and Oversight
- Manage and report on all divisional funds, including self-supporting enterprises and auxiliary organizations.
- Develop and monitor budgets, ensuring alignment with divisional goals and compliance with fiscal policies.
- Provide financial analysis, revenue forecasting, and expenditure management.
- Oversee audits and ensure adherence to GAAP, FASB, GASB, and other standards.
Operations Management
- Lead day-to-day financial activities, including position control, journal entries, and financial system updates (PeopleSoft, Questica).
- Ensure internal controls safeguard assets and produce accurate financial reports.
- Collaborate with campus personnel and the CSU Chancellor’s Office on complex projects and initiatives.
Committee Coordination
- Support Fee Advisory and SSF Oversight Committees, including scheduling, agenda preparation, and documenting decisions.
- Serve as the primary liaison for student fee changes, ensuring transparency and compliance.
Leadership and Training
- Supervise professional staff, promoting professional development and continuous improvement.
- Provide training on financial tools and processes to enhance accuracy and accountability.
- Drive innovation in financial practices to meet strategic goals.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree OR equivalent administrative training/experience in policy or program development.
- Five years of progressively responsible analytical experience across multiple organizational units, including:
- Two years preparing, analyzing, and managing comprehensive budgets, financial reports, and staffing plans.
- Two years of management and supervisory experience.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Expertise in governmental budgeting, accounting principles, and financial administration laws.
- Proficiency in research techniques, statistical analysis, and data interpretation.
- Advanced skills in spreadsheet tools (e.g., pivot tables, linked worksheets) and financial systems like PeopleSoft.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to evaluate budgets and financial practices and recommend effective solutions.
- Outstanding organizational and time management skills to prioritize tasks and meet tight deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills to work with diverse audiences and manage sensitive situations with professionalism and discretion.
