DescriptionEarth and Planets Laboratory (EPL), Carnegie Institution for Science, is seeking a Research software engineer with interest at the intersection of Data science, Informatics, Earth and Planetary Science. The software engineer will participate in projects to develop data-driven approaches to answer fundamental questions about Earth and planetary systems, the origins of life, and the evolution of the geosphere and biosphere. We seek applicants with experience in data science, data analytics, data visualization, and information modeling and an interest in applying their data science skills to planetary science data. Successful candidates will be supervised by Dr. Anirudh Prabhu and will work with members of the Carnegie Data Science Team including Dr. Michael Wong and Dr. Robert Hazen. This full-time, 2-year position will commence on or after June 1, 2025 and will be based at the Broad Branch Road campus of the Carnegie Institution for Science in Washington, DC. QualificationsMinimum qualifications: The applicant must have an undergraduate degree in computer science, data science, geoinformatics, geoscience, or planetary science and must be proficient in coding languages like R, Julia or Python. Experience with data management would be beneficial; the interest and ability to work knowledgeably with geologists, planetary scientists, informaticians, and data curators, are essential.
