About the jobThe Kubernetes and Deployment team in the Platform Services division is looking for a Senior Software Development Engineer in Test. This team is responsible for the deployment experience for the SAS Viya Platform. As a member of this team, you will help align the Viya Platform with Kubernetes, expand and embrace Kubernetes technology adoption, and develop deployment- and cloud infrastructure-focused tooling and processes to maintain deployment readiness.
As a Senior Software Development Engineer in Test, you will:- Create and maintain the highest quality of test automation that fails fast, uses modern development techniques, and provides key data points to support metrics-based decision making.
- Apply your automated tests at every layer of the application stack, both inside and outside of our continuous delivery pipeline
- Share your creativity by leading effective exploratory testing sessions
- Produce key data that illustrates the quality of our applications and develop insight that drives the direction of quality engineering
- Work with your team to promptly triage test failures with precision and accuracy, maintaining the health of the build pipeline
- Work collaboratively with your development, product, operations, and support peers to encourage quality as a key design element is all that we do
- Challenge the status quo every day and never stop improving our quality engineering practices
- Accelerate test coverage using lean testing techniques
- Take a lead role in code reviews for product, test, and infrastructure code
- Protect our users from escaped defects, participate in support escalations, and value our Customer Experience above all else
- Understand the role of deployment, migration, security, and performance in our continuous delivery lifecycle
- Practice effective techniques for deploying and operating SAS software in a multi cloud environment
- Develop and maintain authentic data sets used to test our systems at an enterprise level
- Deploy and support high value test in supported cloud environments where needed
- Utilize observability and monitoring tools to proactively detect and remediate failures
- Build human networks and collaborate across teams and across divisions to evolve quality engineering at SAS
- Serve as a mentor to aspiring quality engineers and multiply your impact
Required qualifications:- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related quantitative field
- 8 years of experience writing software applications, testing software, and/or general programming, including some experience leading projects.
- Effective communication and strong problem-solving skills
- Familiarity with integration, regression, and unit testing
- Familiarity with Agile development practices
- Familiarity with a CI/CD environment
- Familiarity with developing applications in Kubernetes
- Familiarity with git
- Familiar with various cloud environments and concepts
- Proficient with source control management techniques including branching, code review, and merging.
- Experience using Docker
- Experience using Linux
- Familiarity with Golang
- Proficiency authoring and maintaining Dockerfiles and Docker image layer optimization
- Proficiency with CI/CD infrastructure, platform configuration, integration, and secret management.
Preferred qualifications:- Familiarity with using GitHub for source management
- Expert in one, familiarity with multiple cloud infrastructure provisioning tools and processes
- Experience with web-based microservices, REST interfaces, and the OpenAPI. specification
- Expert in one test automation framework and can evaluate and adopt new test automation frameworks
- Experience with Test-Driven Development (TDD)
- Working understanding of cloud-based CLIS for Azure, GCP, and AWS
- Understanding of Kubernetes components and cloud provider offerings.
- Familiarity managing container image versions within container registries.
- Expert in building and maintaining CI/CD solutions
- Fluent in one and experience with multiple cloud interfaces
