Lab Summary: The Standards & Mobility Innovation (SMI) team is committed to developing technologies that enable ubiquitous access to information and provide immersive multimedia experiences for mobility users. Our research focuses on: Wireless standards and technology including Wi-Fi, 5G, LTE-A, IoT RF & fast prototyping of 5G and IEEE 802 wireless systems and/or use cases Multimedia standards and technology including VR, HDR, All-IP delivery. Position Summary: Join the SMI team of Samsung Research America in Plano, Texas to contribute to 6G MIMO and beamforming research, pre-standardization and proof-of concept design. Position Responsibilities: The research intern will contribute to some of the followings: 6G wireless communication idea generation 6G air or modem algorithm design 6G Air interface / fronthaul interface design towards 3GPP / O-RAN standards Technical documentation, e.g., technical report, development specifications, etc. Patent and IPR generation Required Skills: PhD student preferable or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience Sound technical background in signal processing, machine learning, wireless communication systems and algorithms Hands-on coding skills (e.g., Matlab, Python, C/C++, etc.) Ability to clearly define high level requirements and criteria to be used in the evaluation of air interface technology alternatives Have knowledge / experiences on some of the followings: Advanced radio access technologies such as MIMO, OFDM, OFDMA, Single Carrier FDMA, physical/MAC layers, etc. Simulation of cellular network technologies, to derive tradeoffs and to predict performance in diverse channel conditions Multiple antenna (MIMO) and beamforming technologies and digital signal processing Advanced receiver algorithms and link level simulations Artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) algorithms and software tools Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively represent the derived results and technical concepts developed in the course of the work Ability to work within Samsung in cross-functional, cross-divisional teams Our total rewards programs are designed to motivate and engage exceptional talent.
