Promote the Vote (PTV) is a coalition of 12 nonpartisan organizations committed to ensuring that Michigan’s voting system works for all. Each of our partner organizations has a rich history of pro-voter education and advocacy and represents a diverse group of historically disenfranchised communities across the state of Michigan.
Promote the Vote brings our steadfast dedication and unparalleled expertise to ensuring that Michigan’s elections are secure and accessible. From formulating and passing pro-voter ballot initiatives, to drafting and advancing legislation, to co-leading Michigan’s statewide nonpartisan Election Protection Program, we cut through the partisan noise to advance voting rights for the people of Michigan.
We are currently seeking a Voting Rights Counsel to join our hardworking team of lawyers, policy experts, advocates, organizers, and communicators. The Voting Rights Counsel will primarily support PTV’s election protection and pro-voter policy work.

- Present on voting rights topics to a variety of audiences.
- Develop and implement targeted strategies to ensure that historically disenfranchised populations with unique barriers to ballot access have the ability to register and vote.
- Develop and maintain relationships with pro-voter organizations, agencies, associations, and interest groups to grow Michigan’s non-partisan pro-voter coalition and further eliminate disparities in civic participation.
- Assist with drafting testimony and pro-voter bills; create fact sheets, bill summaries, and other advocacy materials for internal and external audiences.
- Assist with PTV’s election official engagement and policy implementation work.
- Conduct legal research and draft legal memos and other written correspondence.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

- Excellent attention to detail.
- Superior organizational and time-management skills, and the ability to manage projects independently and remotely.
- The ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to gather information, think creatively, and ensure the work moves forward.
- The ability to work flexible hours under tight deadlines.
- Strong communication skills, including writing and public speaking.
- The ability to collaborate with PTV staff and partner organizations.
