Rethink Education
Senior Associate
Location: New York City, NY
Rethink Education is an early-stage venture capital firm with more than 10 years in operation. Our mission is to help people reach their full human potential using education and workforce development as a lever for economic mobility. We focus on supporting overlooked and underserved learners while investing in highly scalable business models. We have deep expertise in schools, government, and enterprise that help us support the unique challenges of our founders. We invest in companies that will meet the opportunities of 21st-century learning for all ages including Guild Education, Degreed, 2U, Pluralsight, Trilogy and others.
The Senior Associate serves as an integral member of our investment team, including sourcing deals, leading due diligence, and ensuring accurate and timely portfolio reporting. The right candidate is an intellectually curious self-starter with the enthusiasm, analytical ability, and collaborative mindset necessary to thrive in a dynamic role.
Who You Are:
You are frustrated with the inequities in education and have a demonstrated passion and perspective on the learning/skills development market. If you haven’t already tried to build a solution to address this problem, you’re determined to find the next category-defining startup addressing the evolving needs of learners. You are a voracious learner with an insatiable thirst for knowledge, research, and an optimist on opportunity. You use data to back your confident decision-making but also welcome the opinion of others. You are thoughtful, collaborative, empathetic, hard-working with a founder-first mindset.
What We Are Looking For:
- At least 3-5 years of experience in venture capital, private equity, investment banking, corporate development, management consulting or experience as an operator in a tech/startup environment.
- Strong analytical skills, familiarity with financial models and the ability to distill quantitative and qualitative data into actionable insights.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to build relationships with entrepreneurs, investors, and other stakeholders.
- Critical attention to detail, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects and a willingness to help with every aspect of the business.
- Strong drive and the ability to self-direct – your work and time is open-ended by nature and you must be able to identify and execute on opportunities to contribute to the team with little management or direction.
- Passion for Rethink Education’s mission and investment themes.
What You Will Do:
As a Senior Associate, you will play a critical role in sourcing, evaluating, and managing investments in early-stage companies. You will work closely with the Investment Team to help drive the firm’s investment strategy and provide support with fund operations and portfolio management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Source and evaluate investment opportunities through research, industry analysis, and networking with entrepreneurs and other investors.
- Continuously learn about new themes, trends, and technologies. Develop deal sense and conviction around the companies and themes you evaluate. Conduct thematic deep dives and develop market maps to inform our investment strategy.
- Conduct due diligence on potential investments, including market analysis, financial modeling, competitive analysis, exit analysis, and user interviews. Write investment memos and deliver compelling arguments to the investment committee.
- Support fund operations, including reporting to limited partners, valuations support, financial modeling and deck creation, fund construction, and pipeline tracking.
- Work closely with portfolio companies to provide strategic guidance, operational support, and help them achieve their goals alongside Partners.
- Represent the firm at industry events and conferences to build relationships and expand the firm’s network.
Based on the internal and market data Rethink Education has collected, we expect the base salary range for this position to be $140,000 — $160,000 per year. Your actual compensation will be determined based on your skills, qualifications, and experience.
