OBJECTIVE
Execute the fund and management company accounting and financial reporting functions for a rapidly growing venture capital firm. Ensure that the fund’s and firm’s financial statements are accurate and comply with all policies, industry best practices, accounting principles, and regulatory standards. Improve internal controls and accounting-related polices. Build best in class budgets and forecasts for the management company. Improve the firms processes around vendor payments and expense allocations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage outsourced Fund Administrator which includes a fund accounting team and a Management Company accounting team
- Own and improve the firm’s financial reporting packages to a world class venture capital standard and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
- Ensure internal controls are operating effectively and appropriate policies and procedures exist around the firm’s financial reporting processes
- Coordinate annual audit activities with external auditors and ensure compliance with tax requirements
- Supervise and control the accounting of the management company’s books and records including payables, receivables, and expense reports with the Fund Administrator team. Monitor progress against the firm’s operating budget
- Oversee and verify management and incentive fees, waterfall, and expense allocations
- Coordinate with Fund Administrator, Finance and Operations team, on capital calls and distributions, and review of fund financial statements. Ensure the accuracy of all underlying calculations
- Prepare for operational due diligence processes in conjunction with fundraises
- Work with the Finance and Operations team on ad hoc projects and special requests to support the broader team
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance with an active CPA license
- 5+ years of experience in a combination of public accounting with a Big 4 or nationally recognized firm and/or private equity or venture capital asset management; Direct experience in or with venture capital firms and management company accounting preferred
- The ability to think innovatively to solve problems and improve processes
- Proven leader of high-powered teams with the ability to manage third party vendors and consultants remotely
- Expertise in financial market activities, accounting, audit, tax, statutory regulations affecting venture capital and/or private equity funds
- Strong communication skills (written, oral, and graphic) and research abilities
- Highly proficient in Microsfot Excel and have a strong working knowledge of industry general ledger software (e.g. Investran)
- Ability to understand and improve business processes and data to work cohesively across the firm’s systems as part of its ongoing digital transformation project
Starting Date: As available
Compensation: $135,000-$165,000 base salary
