Position Summary: The Associate will report to the Managing Director (MD), whose mission includes the development of an innovation environment at NYU. The Associate will support the MD driving interest in entrepreneurship and technology commercialization across the university; sourcing, evaluating and leading the due diligence of investment opportunities in the information technology and physical science sectors for the Fund; helping to oversee portfolio company management and growth; and helping to streamline Fund operations. In addition, the Associate will play an active role coaching and training NYU entrepreneurs looking for guidance to grow and advance their ventures. Qualifications: Required Education:
Bachelor’s Degree BA or BS degree in computer science, electrical engineering or related field.
Preferred Education:
Bachelor’s Degree Computer science, electrical engineering or related fields.
Required Experience:
3+ years 3-5 years of prior work experience in the information technology industries.
Preferred Experience:
3+ years 3-5 years experience in venture capital, startup accelerators, early-stage information technology and physical science investing and/or founder level startup experience.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Very strong oral and written communication skills; demonstrated knowledge of information technology sectors such as software, internet/web, mobile, hardware/systems, etc. Highly collaborative work style, yet capable of working alone and with limited guidance when needed; Genuine passion for startups, venture capital investing and the entrepreneurial process. In depth knowledge and experience with customer development/lean startup methodologies. Strong financial literacy and understanding of valuation analytics.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Familiarity with information technology, computer science, electrical engineering industries. Excellent business writing skills. Strong oral presentation skills and/or comfort teaching/delivering workshops. Administrative work experience in research university environment is helpful but not required.
