About the role:
As a member of the Ventures Platforms and Portfolio Success team within Capital One Ventures you will support the development, growth and expansion of strategic opportunities for COV Portfolio companies inside Capital One. You will focus on understanding Portfolio company products and aligning solutions to Capital One needs and strategies.
What you’ll do:
You’ll be asked to handle a variety of responsibilities, including:
Portfolio Success: Design and pursue synergistic opportunities between Capital One and our portfolio of venture-capital-backed startups that operate within the categories of enterprise technology and consumer enabling technology. Analyze, identify, and codify repeatable successes and best practices to maximize the strategic returns of Capital One Ventures investments across all investment teams; implement new strategies to extract value, build strong relationships with Portfolio companies.
Business Development: Collaborate with product and technical stakeholders and procurement teams at Capital One to identify, scope, and advance opportunities for Portfolio companies to positively impact Capital One’s business; build strong relationships within Capital One, and further develop existing commercial opportunities. This requires the ability to network, understand technical requirements or architectures, and match portfolio company solutions to those needs.
Portfolio Monitoring: Engage proactively in understanding the strategies, roadmaps, and commercial traction of our portfolio companies in order to identify and create additional opportunities. Lead periodic data collection, contribute to portfolio reporting and artifacts, develop commercial opportunities with portfolio companies, and support ad hoc analyses related to Ventures’ portfolio management and compliance.
Cultural Operations: Provide mentorship and partnership to team members across the Ventures organization and serve as a cultural ambassador for the team and Capital One.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- At least 4 years of professional experience in post-sales or implementation engineering, business development, product management, or technical consulting
Preferred Qualifications:
- At least 3 years of experience in technology engineering, venture capital, startup product management, or technical consulting
- Knowledge of startup product and technology development lifecycles
- Knowledge of enterprise software as a service (SaaS) sales cycles
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships and expand commercial contract opportunities
- Software product development or technical engineering experience

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
New York City (Hybrid On-Site): $160,200 – $182,800 for Manager, Business Development
Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.
