POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Innovation Industries department at NYCEDC oversees real estate and capital projects, financial incentives, government wayfinding and regulatory reform, and workforce initiatives and diverse entrepreneurship programs to ensure New York City remains a global leader in innovation, and that we provide pathways of opportunity for all New Yorkers in our tech, life sciences, clean tech, and creative industries.
We are industry ambassadors and champions, engaging with private sector, philanthropic, government, NGO, and academia leadership to understand the rapidly changing landscape of NYC’s key growth sectors. For example, we launch wet and dry labs, video game production facilities, or AI and robotics innovation studios for therapeutic discovery and healthcare tech.
LifeSci NYC is EDC’s $1Billion initiative to create 40,000 new jobs and establish NYC as the global leader in tech-forward life sciences including a diverse talent pool, renowned medical research institutions, a robust VC ecosystem, world-class commercial lab spaces and business hubs.
The SVP will play a critical role in leading this effort.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as EDC’s industry ambassador and champion, with external gravitas, confidence, industry fluency, network, and know-how to advance our mission.
- Develop industry strategy. Research and digest industry trends, technology trends, and market dynamics, and prioritize programs to deliver maximal output and inclusive growth.
- Oversee project budgeting and forecasting, ensuring accurate planning and accountability.
- Portfolio Manage EDC’s LifeSci projects and programs, ensuring the tracking of project milestones, driving program excellence through our operators, and reporting on metrics, impact, and financial performance.
- Build and maintain relationships with key healthcare and life science stakeholders in the private sector, including organization of roundtables, 1:1s and ecosystem events, and oversight of EDC’s Life Sciences Advisory Council.
- Oversee procurements, grants, and the administration of financial incentives with documented processes and transparent underwriting.
- Oversee project planning and execution with cross functional project teams and external consultant partners including scope, timelines, specific analyses to be completed, and delegation of responsibilities. Manage project timelines.
- Engage NYCEDC executives, leaders from partner organizations and City Hall on critical outreach and policy advocacy matters. Communicate strategies, project updates, and briefings for key stakeholders.
- Manage partnerships with key industry players. Attract them to New York and ensure their successful expansion with EDCs real estate, programs, and incentives.
- Promote a collaborative, high performing organizational culture that fosters passion for our mission, program excellence, teamwork, and a shared purpose.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- MBA, MPH, Masters Degree or PhD in a Life Sciences and/or Healthcare specific field or other graduate degree strongly preferred
- 10+ years of leadership experience in the Life Sciences industry within high quality private sector Life Sciences companies, venture capital teams, commercialization groups, consulting firms.
- Demonstrated record of converting ideas into action plans and results.
- Deep understanding and relationships among Life Sciences industry players. Record of providing successful strategic guidance in a demanding analytic environment.
- Ability to look at the big picture and search for insightful, creative solutions.
- Extensive project management experience against tight timelines, and with a collaborative style that works well in cross-functional teams and that empowers staff.
- History of attracting, hiring, developing, and retaining top talent
- Demonstrated communication skills (written, oral communication and presentation skills)
- Entrepreneurial and leadership ability, organized and results oriented
- New York City residence is required within 180 days of hire
Salary Range
$155,000—$165,000 USD
