POSITION DUTIES AND QUALIFICATIONS SUMMARY OF DUTIES:Under direction, positions assigned to this classification are primarily responsible for operational functions and routine audits as well as providing non-routine statistical methods and data analytics to help business partners make sound decisions that enhance operations.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Position Specific SummaryThe Design and Visualization Analyst position at the City of Tucson's Information Technology Department focuses on designing and developing user-centered web applications with a strong emphasis on User Experience (UX) and User Interface (UI) principles, data visualization, and Geographic Information System (GIS) integration. This position collaborates with partners to gather requirements, develop mockups, build intuitive, and accessible interfaces that enhance user experience, interaction, including best practices for usability and accessibility while maintaining design consistency across platforms.Work is performed under the supervision of the Information Technology Manager. This position does not supervise. Duties and ResponsibilitiesConsults with partner departments in designing applications that effectively meets its objectives. Creates charts, graphs and other elements to represent and summarize data to provide understanding of visualization. Enhances accessibility and usability of digital platforms for data sharing by including accessibility features in design process, providing accessibility documentation and support. Creates intuitive interfaces for improved user interaction with city data. Develops user stories and mockups for data visualization projects to outline the design. Collaborates with partners with email updates, utilizing project management tools, in-person meetings to gather requirements and feedback for iterative design.Consults with partner departments in building data visualizations that best convey the objectives of the application or report that allows for data to be visualized. Designs and implements engaging data visualizations by following a structured process with interactive elements to allow users to explore data. Translates complex data into compelling visual narratives.Works closely with data analytics and GIS teams to identify and address data communication needs. Supports the enhancement of data storytelling capabilities within the team and the city by developing guides, templates, toolkits etc.Drafts and implements strategies by planning, considering audiences, and levels of expertise with analytics to communicate data analytics insights tailored to their needs. Prepares reports and presentations via various systems and platforms or other tools and digital content for diverse audiences.Assists with special projects and resolving a variety of related issues. Develops and maintains standards and guidelines with approval from the IT Manager regarding data visualizations across city departments, ensuring consistency and quality. Includes accessibility considerations to ensure data visualizations are usable for all members of the community, complying with best practices and legal requirements.Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned. Experience with GIS data and projects is highly desirable. Analytical Skills: Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and make data-driven recommendations.
