Riley’s Way is seeking a highly motivated individual to join the team as the Community & Events Program Coordinator. This person will support and engage our growing community of young leaders and alumni by 1) planning and coordinating programming events, including in-person retreats, leadership summits, and virtual workshops; and 2) cultivating and tracking an active and engaged Alumni community; 3) coordinating other special projects such as our Expert Kind Leader Initiative.
This person must be mission-aligned and have deep respect for the youth leaders and the programmatic work. They will grow and expand our leadership retreats and community learning and networking opportunities in line with our values of kindness, empathy, community and youth leadership. The Program Coordinator will report to the Program Director and work closely with youth leaders and other Riley’s Way team members. This is a role for someone with extraordinary attention to detail, a desire to build and grow programs and community for young people, and who has experience organizing impactful events and community spaces (both in person and virtually).
Specific responsibilities include:
1) Plan and coordinate programming events including in-person retreats, leadership summits, and virtual workshops
- Plan and coordinate all logistics for our annual in-person weekend leadership and community building retreats including the Youth Leadership Retreat, a Fall weekend at a camp for 100+ high school leaders; and our annual in-person Call For Kindness (C4K) Summit for 70+ C4K and Continuation Grant Fellows
- Collaborate with program staff to curate an inspiring and community building experience that leaves participants with new skills, friendships, and connections to be effective changemakers.
- Coordinate and organize logistics and activities including workshops, guests, and keynote speakers.
- Hire and train alumni Team Mentors and facilitate alumni planning committees.
- Managing recruitment, outreach, registration, travel/housing arrangements and communication with participants.
- Partner on curriculum design with the Program and C4K team.
- Liaise with venue staff and guest speakers, support Parents/Guardians, and manage participant registration and communication.
- Coordinate and organize an annual virtual Networking Workshop and other program events as needed.
2) Cultivate a rewarding Alumni program
- Build relationships with and cultivate conversation, continued engagement, and community among Riley’s Way Alumni.
- Develop and manage communication and connection platforms for Alumni.; design and create content for an Alumni newsletter and other communication platforms.
- Partner with current Alumni to plan regional meet-ups and coordinate other engagement activities and opportunities among Alumni including an annual Alumni Award and a professional development fund.
- Manage systems for tracking and staying in touch with Alumni including understanding their professional development needs, their professional journey, and the impact Riley’s Way.
- Collaborate with the Development team on the creation of a peer-to-peer Alumni fundraising initiative.
3) Coordinate other special projects as needed such as our Expert Kind Leader Mentorship initiative.
- Work closely with the program staff to build out a rewarding mentorship pilot program; recruit adult and teen experts in the field, manage tracking and evaluation, and implement a successful and meaningful program for both Fellows and mentors.
Qualifications:

- Ability to build and maintain strong relationships and experience working with young people
- Experience with event planning and organizing event logistics
- Experience curating intentional conversations and building online communities; understanding of how to grow and engage an audience
- High comfort level with Google workspace, social media, and email marketing tools such as Mailchimp
- Task oriented with a knack for staying organized and working across multiple projects, timelines, and priorities
- Ability to problem-solve in the moment and high degree of professional integrity
- 1+ years of relevant experience and valid drivers license (preferred)
The ideal Candidate will also have:
- Excellent writing, branding, messaging skills with a good eye for visual content and design
- Some experience with designing programs or curating curriculum
- Excellent team building, critical thinking, and facilitation skills
Details: Location: This is a hybrid position; the candidate can work mostly remotely, but should have the ability and willingness to spend time each week at Riley’s Way offices in Brooklyn or at other locations around New York for meetings and programming. There is also required travel for meetings and events. Ideally the candidate lives in the tri-state area.
