Position Overview:
As a member of the Software Engineering Team, the Software Engineer II will play a crucial role in enhancing our Robot development lifecycle. This position focuses on bringing our build systems and testing infrastructure to the next level, supporting the efficient development and deployment of robotic solutions. As a core member of our Software Division, the Software Engineer II will work with our world-class team of engineers and scientists to build a platform for the next generation of intelligent machines. Their experience will be pivotal in advancing our mission: safe, secure and reliable robots everywhere.
This position is located in San Diego (Sorrento Valley) and requires coming into the office 5 days/week. This position is not eligible to be remote.
Essential Job Functions:
- Drive the evolution of our build systems, enhancing performance and scalability to support the future of our cutting-edge projects
- Revolutionize our testing frameworks, enabling incremental testing and guaranteeing high coverage and reliability for our advanced robotic systems
- Partner with talented engineers and QA experts to seamlessly integrate build and test systems into our dynamic development pipeline
- Lead the charge in optimizing our and test automation processes, slashing PR verification times, and elevating code quality to new heights
- Design, implement, and manage containerized environments, ensuring peak resource utilization and smooth deployment workflows
- Spearhead the upgrade of crucial libraries and dependencies, including Python, OpenCV, and CUDA, ensuring seamless compatibility and performance
- Be at the forefront of innovation, supporting rapid prototyping to bring visionary ideas to life
- Embrace a culture of continuous learning and improvement, always seeking new challenges and opportunities to grow
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
- 1-3 years of demonstrated experience in software development for complex function-based software
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics:
- Experience working with build systems (cmake, make, bazel, ninja…)
- Experience with testing frameworks in C++ and Python (GTest, catch2, pytest…)
- Experience working with creating Ubuntu debian packages
- Experience with test automation for embedded software
- Proficient in Python
- Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to team members and stakeholders
Things that make a difference:
- Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
- Familiarity with Yocto or buildroot
- Experience with mobile robotics or IoT
- Experience with AGILE development and continuous integration
- Previous experience with shipping and supporting complex software products
- Experience with Github, JIRA, and Jenkins tools for source control, tracking, and testing

- Experience in autonomous vehicles, robotics, or related fields.
- Expertise in developing large complex near-real time systems

Salary Range:
The anticipated salary for candidates who will work in San Diego, California is $125,000.
