The role
We’re adding Software Engineers to our team to help us build and scale our user-facing products. You’ll work closely with product, engineering and business leaders to help people optimize their taxes with 0 effort, bridge gaps between paychecks, build their credit score, and more!
With access to a robust pipeline of excited paying users with high intent to use Grid, you’ll have a significant impact on our users’ happiness and financial wellbeing.

The tech stack
Our backend tech stack is based on GCP, Go, protobufs, BigQuery and MySQL. We have built our platform from the ground up to optimize for clean data sources, and we have made numerous investments into data warehousing, streaming analytics infrastructure and offline data cleanliness. As a result, we think Grid is positioned for efficient and powerful data science.
What you will be doing
- Backend Development: You’ll be building domain models, business logic and API integrations that make our product just work for customers.
- Deployment & Iteration: We practice a dynamic, data-driven approach to product development. As an product engineer at Grid, you’ll build towards bold milestones in well-engineered, incremental releases.
- Data Analysis: As a data-driven product, we have robust data pipelines and analytics infrastructure. To be successful at Grid, you’ll utilize SQL and other analysis tools to evaluate product and system performance regularly.
- Debugging Evented Systems: Grid’s backend makes heavy use of pubsub. Testing and debugging complex state machines, in order to create a seamless experience for all users is key.
- Shipping to Production: You’ll have access to a rapid CI/CD process that enables you to ship to production on the daily. As an engineer, you’ll own your implementations end to end and respond to production incidents as needed.
About you
- Backend Software Engineer: Significant experience writing consumer-grade backend software, ideally in Go (golang) deployed on GCP.
- Startup Person: You seek high growth opportunities and are constantly learning about the world around you. You feel at home with dynamic decision making and an iterative approach.
- Experience with FinTech or other complex domains: End-to-end understanding of product engineering in an complex environment, such as financial services, health, insurance, etc.
- Experience prioritizing customers and user experience: We’re looking for people who make complicated things simple. Financial services tend to be unnecessarily complex by default. We aspire towards lightweight UX that’s quick and fun for our users.
- Experience with Data-oriented backends: Proven experience in evented systems, data acquisition (screen scraping, crawling), data normalization and API integration is a plus.
- Autonomy and Initiative: Ability to work independently and take ownership of projects, showcasing a proactive approach to identifying key leverage points for data products.
- Curiosity and Optimism: People who are constantly asking why the world around them work the way it does, and who have the will to change it.
- Self Starter: Confidence to prioritize work and delivery demonstrable results on a tight cadence.
- Domain Knowledge: Demonstrated experience or understanding of web scrapers, data acquisition and normalization. Familiarity with the tax code or financial modeling is nice to have but not required.
