The Sanitation Supervisor provides strong leadership to the Sanitation team to achieve full plant compliance with all personnel safety, food safety, sanitation/cleaning requirements pertaining to all federal, state and customer requirements and the Company’s own food safety and manufacturing standards. They must meet or exceed guidelines as they pertain to the facility, equipment, and industry standards for sanitation and SQF. The Sanitation Supervisor is responsible for the daily management of Sanitation & Cleaning services, personnel, and project support.
Sanitation Supervisor performs a variety of tasks including special projects, cleaning, sanitizing, requisitioning supplies and equipment, facilities inspection, and other duties as required based on the needs of the business. The Sanitation Supervisor works with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment to address issues but will be required to justify actions. The Sanitation Supervisor is a working position who may work in a team environment, or on specific assigned projects. Duties will also include helping to develop new methods, staff training and evaluation, and completing daily reports. Special Project Assignments may occasionally fluctuate between inside & outside environments, scheduled work shifts, scheduled workdays.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Leads the sanitation team in safe working practices including chemical handling, PPE and OSHA requirements.
- Understands the manufacturing process and equipment/parts design to ensure proper equipment sanitation and efficient startups.
- Problem solves with Operators and facilities Management Teams, with an open mind & the spirit of co-operation in a positive and professional manner.
- Demonstrates good time management in planning work schedules to ensure deadlines are met.
- Establishes standards and procedures for work of staff; will be required to lead by example.
- Assists in the development, organization, and participation of staff in departmental training programs; provides on-going supervision and coaching to improve operations with positive reinforcement and goals.
- Maintains records and daily logs. Prepares periodic activity and reports for review.
- Accountability for all Departmental stock & inventory control. Periodically inventories supply and requisitions and distributes supplies and equipment; places orders as required. Maintains records of supplies used.
- Daily inspects and evaluates cleanliness and physical condition of facilities, and submits reports to Quality Manager, Director of Operations & Maintenance Department of recommendations for painting, repairs, furnishings, replacement of tools and equipment, etc.
- Plans schedules and coordinates cleaning projects with facility operational Management teams.
- Writes weekly staff assignment schedules, performs employee performance evaluations, and holds disciplinary/coaching meetings as needed.
- Daily ensures supply rooms are stocked and maintained in a neat & orderly manner.
- Flexible scheduling: Some scheduling is determined by hours of operation and events; also, occasionally works after hours to complete special projects, handling after-hour emergencies and problems. Demonstrates analytical skills and the ability to problem solve. Available if needed24/7 for business emergencies.
- Ensures all safety procedures are followed.
- Flexible duties: other duties deemed necessary by corporate management.
QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The following list that follows is representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required:
- Principles and processes for providing business sanitation & cleaning services, includes needs assessment, meeting quality standards, and evaluation of results.
- Business & management principles involved with planning, resource allocation, & leadership technique.
- Ability to communicate clearly, professionally, and effectively.
- Reading and comprehension abilities for proper use of chemical.
- Must be able to follow Occupational Safety and Health Administration guidelines when using and storing chemicals.
- Must be able to demonstrate an understanding of national Food safety initiatives by strict compliance to all FDA, SQF and AIB safety protocols and procedures.
- As needed, must be able to work all shifts, weekends.
- Knowledge and understanding of principles and methods of training and instruction.
- Ability to work in a Team environment in a positive manner of respect, cooperation & flexibility.
- Proactive and self-starting, working in a culture of goal setting with continuous improvement focus and training and mentoring of team members.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Minimum High School diploma or its equivalent.
- 2 to 4 years previous supervisory experience a plus.
- Equivalent combinations of education and work experience will be considered.
