WHY VEIR?
Giving everyone in the world access to clean, reliable, affordable energy will require substantial expansion of global electricity transmission networks. VEIR is developing a new generation of High Temperature Superconductor (HTS)-based transmission lines, enabling long distance, reliable, low loss, cost–effective power transfer in far smaller right–of–ways. VEIR’s innovations overcome the main barriers to transmission expansion, enabling the world to access the very lowest cost renewable power.
THE ROLE:
The Buyer will be responsible for procuring materials, equipment, and services necessary for VEIR’s operations. This role involves sourcing suppliers, negotiating contracts, and ensuring the timely delivery of quality products at competitive prices. The ideal candidate will possess excellent negotiation skills, a strong understanding of supply chain management, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
This position is in-office, based at VEIR HQ in Woburn, MA.
YOU WILL:
Sourcing and Procurement:
• Identify and evaluate potential suppliers based on quality, cost, and reliability.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers.
• Conduct market research to stay updated on industry trends and pricing.
Contract Management:
• Negotiate terms and conditions with suppliers to secure favorable contracts.
• Ensure compliance with company policies and legal requirements.
• Manage and monitor supplier performance to ensure adherence to contract terms.
Inventory Management:
• Collaborate with inventory and logistics teams to maintain optimal stock levels.
• Monitor inventory levels and coordinate orders to prevent shortages or overstock.
• Implement strategies for cost reduction and efficiency improvement.
Quality Assurance:
• Ensure all procured materials meet the required specifications and quality standards.
• Address any issues related to defective or substandard products.
• Work closely with the quality control team to resolve supplier-related quality issues.
Cost Control:
• Analyze cost structures and identify opportunities for cost savings.
• Prepare and manage budgets for procurement activities.
• Track and report on procurement metrics and performance indicators.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in procurement or supply chain management, preferably in the power transmission or related industry.
• Strong negotiation and contract management skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in procurement software and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Knowledge of cryogenics, vacuum systems, LIN
• High-pressure plumbing hardware and services (HVAC, Water mains, natural gas)
• Power utility EPCs and transmission hardware
• Procurement experience for R&D environments
EXPECTED OUTCOMES:
In 3 months:
• Develop a thorough grasp of the company’s procurement procedures, policies, and systems.
• Gain familiarity with the supply chain, key suppliers, and procurement workflows.
• Initiate negotiations or renegotiations with suppliers for better terms and conditions.
• Develop a system for tracking and reporting key procurement metrics (e.g., cost savings, supplier performance).
