The Instrumentation Engineer is responsible for instrumentation and data acquisition needs at our new, state-of-the-art test facility in St Albans, VT. As an Instrumentation Engineer on the Battery Test Team at BETA Technologies, you will use your experience with various sensors and data acquisition platforms to collect data including strain, condensation, or even thermal runaway contact audio. Test needs range from one-off research and development tests, to extensively planned tests witnessed by the FAA for certification credit. An ideal candidate has the attention to detail to ensure each test produces useful data and has the drive and motivation to see things through to completion no matter the challenge.
How you will contribute to revolutionizing electric aviation:
- Development, review, and approval of parameter requirements for testing platforms
- Data acquisition system architecture design, software, and hardware development
- Formal documentation of data acquisition design, including engineering schematics and bill of materials
- Data acquisition software development to support multiple hardware platforms
- Develop and continue support of data retrieval and storage methods
- Work with the software team for long-term data storage plans and process
Minimum Qualifications we are seeking:
- Technical experience and/or education to support essential duties
- Proficiency in electro-mechanical engineering and fundamental physics required
- Understanding of sensing, measurement, and data acquisition techniques
- Hands-on experience using required tools and techniques to facilitate building, deploying, and maintaining complex data acquisition systems and sub-systems
- Requires excellent documentation skills and attention to detail
- Ability to creatively propose various possible solutions to problems
- Clear communication with team members to aid in work planning and raise any blockers or needs
Above and Beyond Qualifications that will distinguish you:
- Formal applicable education, including a Bachelor Degree in Engineering
- Battery cell or high voltage DC electrical system experience
- Aerospace design verification experience, especially compliance test experience
