At CesiumAstro, we are developers and pioneers of out-of-the-box communication systems for satellites, UAVs, launch vehicles, and other space and airborne platforms. We take pride in our dynamic and cross-functional work environment, which allows us to learn, develop, and engage across our organization. If you are looking for hands-on, interactive, and autonomous work, CesiumAstro is the place for you.
We are looking to add a Senior Power Electronics Engineer I to our team. If you enjoy working in a startup environment and are passionate about developing leading-edge power electronics for satellites, spacecraft, and aerospace systems, we would like to hear from you.
At the Senior level, you will be tasked with full-stack power electronics development. You will have the opportunity to start at concept development and progress through detailed design, analysis, board layout, testing, and delivery, doing hands-on work at each phase.
At a small company and a startup, your work will make direct contributions to the success of the business. The work is challenging and impactful, requiring both breadth and depth of technical knowledge. Our products are made for high-reliability space and airborne applications, so designs require high levels of technical rigor while maintaining the agility of a startup environment.
The successful candidate will also present engineering design review materials to our customers and executive team. As such, excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Own end-to-end design of power converters, and power management and control circuits, from concept and architecture definition to schematic, printed circuit board (PCB) design, testing, qualification, production transition and production support.
- Perform detailed and complete schematic design for low-to medium complexity power electronics designs, ranging from single power converters to multi-output power supply modules and power management circuitry.
- Perform detailed PCB layout in Altium Designer independently or in collaboration with a PCB Drafter.
- Perform modeling and analysis of analog and power electronics designs including worst-case circuit analysis, stress analysis, small signal and stability analysis, power loss and efficiency optimization analysis, and power integrity analysis.
- Develop design verification test plans, requirements compliance matrices, system integration and qualification test plans, and production acceptance test plans for power converters and power supply designs.
- Perform bring-up and design verification testing of power electronics circuits and modules, often working with a technician or junior engineer to complete design verification.
- Collaborate with multi-discipline engineering team and lead system integration and qualification campaigns, and release analog and power electronics designs to production.
- Mentor junior engineers to build technical understanding and foster professional development of team.
JOB REQUIREMENTS AND MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor of Science (BS) degree or higher in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
- Minimum of 4 years of industry or university research experience in board-level power electronics design, analysis, and test.
- Experience owning the design phase of circuits or boards, including trade studies, component selection, and detailed design.
- Experience performing or guiding complex PCB layout for analog and power electronics.
- Experience with analysis and simulation tools such as SPICE, LTSPICE, SIMetrix/SIMPLIS, PLECS, Simulink, MATLAB, or MathCAD.
- Strong laboratory testing and troubleshooting experience for prototyping, design verification testing and qualification of analog and power electronics hardware.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
