23andMe is seeking a talented Research Associate to join our team. This person will be responsible for supporting a variety of research projects and collaborations aimed at improving our genetic understanding of specific health conditions or populations.
This will involve working cross-functionally to support research participant recruitment and engagement, facilitating communications with potential collaborators, supporting the review and execution of collaboration agreements, and submitting applications to access external genomics datasets. What You’ll Do
- Serve as liaison between 23andMe and potential collaborators by helping them select appropriate collaboration programs and navigate the application processes
- Prepare guidance materials for the Customer Care team to use when responding to emails from research participants; investigate and resolve participant issues that require escalation to the Research team
- Conduct eligibility screening for research studies
- Work closely with the Research and Legal teams to facilitate access to published 23andMe genomics datasets by reviewing requests, drafting agreements, and sharing datasets
- Collaborate with the Communications team to plan blog posts and other press activities for impactful publications
- Work closely with scientists on the Research, Product, and Therapeutics teams to prepare, track, and submit applications for external genomics datasets in government repositories or biobanks
- Take meeting minutes, track action items, organize documentation, issue compensation to research participants, and route study materials for stakeholder approval and IRB submission. Incorporate a “DEI by design” framework into each phase of project execution
- Track metrics and efficiently communicate progress and issues arising to multiple stakeholders
- Maintain program documentation and continually search for opportunities to improve program processes
What You’ll Bring
- BS in Biology or related discipline or equivalent work experience required, education and/or training in genetics is preferred
- 1+ years post-graduate research or work experience in genomics; 1+ years experience in customer-facing or patient-facing role
- Experience with multi-institutional research projects, human subjects research, and the scientific publication process are preferred
- Ability to demonstrate patience and empathy while resolving sensitive inquiries from research participants; experience communicating externally and professionally as a representative of an organization or project team
- Committed attention to detail and timelines, and an ability to manage high-volume programs with substantial documentation and tracking requirements
- Friendly, flexible and a phenomenal teammate; creative thinker and proactive problem solver
- Ability to work from 23andMe’s office in Sunnyvale, CA a minimum of three days per week is required

Pay Transparency
23andMe takes a market-based approach to pay, and amounts will vary depending on your geographic location. The salary range reflected here is for a candidate based in the San Francisco Bay Area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
