DESCRIPTION

The 28twelve Foundation is seeking an experienced development professional to build and manage a portfolio of high-net worth donors capable of making important multi-year strategic and transformational gifts, and to oversee all aspects of fundraising: creation of a development plan, donor prospecting, donor engagement, and grant writing. The Development Director must be highly relational and an entrepreneurial systems builder with a proven track record of engagement with high net-worth donors and who can work closely with the Executive Director to provide leadership and management of all development functions.

The 28twelve Foundation exists to identify, inspire and integrate followers of Christ to be leaders, influencers and restorers through courageous and faithful vocation around the world in order to redeem culture and that all may come to know the saving love of Jesus. The origins of the 28twelve Foundation date back to the founding of the Harvey Fellows Program in 1992 under the direction of the Mustard Seed Foundation. In 2019, 28twelve took over the Harvey Fellows program and is now a growing Christian Vocational Leadership Ministry. The Harvey Fellowship, the flagship program of the 28twelve Foundation, provides financial support to Christian students pursuing graduate studies at premier institutions with a vision to impact society through their vocations. For over 30 years, the Harvey Fellows program has sought to mark, equip and encourage individuals to actively integrate their faith and vocation as leaders in strategic occupations. The Harvey Fellowship is a $16,000 annual stipend awarded through a competitive application process. The stipend may be renewed for up to an additional two years. Our financial giving each year is currently approximately $500,000. In addition to scholarships, 28twelve sponsors semi-annual Summer Institutes for new Fellows, regional gatherings, mentorship programs, and other activities in support of the mission. Our minimum annual fundraising goals are between $750,000 - $1,000,000 (depending on the year of the Summer Institute).

The Director of Development is a half-time position and will report to and collaborate with the Executive Director. The role will also work closely with colleagues across all aspects of 28twelve, including other development, marketing, accounting, and program staff. This role can be based anywhere in the continental US, with preference for West Coast or Pacific Time Zone due to the ease of collaboration. Some travel is required but limited to less than 10% of total aggregate time.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategy

Create and execute a development plan in alignment with the Foundation’s strategic plan that builds a scalable fundraising operation to:
generate steady, long-term, sustainable growth
increase donor identification, cultivation, solicitation, engagement and retention: (engage partners and alumni)
Leverage 28twelve development data and external best practices to identify and design actions and to translate those into appropriate monthly, quarterly and annual Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and reports.
Contribute and shape strategic and program priorities in collaboration with other 28twelve team members.
Represent the development department to Board members and contribute to Board meetings as requested by the Executive Director.

Mobilization

Grow and lead a development team of volunteer alumni and donor engagement professionals:
Identify team needs in light of income targets, and design roles and recruit staff to meet those needs.
Manage and coach team members to meet development targets.
Ensure opportunities for professional development and growth exist for development team members.
Work with 28twelve’s loyal base of donors, partners and alumni to design and deliver a set of engagement programs that enrich and engage our alumni and donor base.

Activities

Responsible for a portfolio of major donors, including prospecting, cultivation, conversation, ongoing engagement and retention.
Oversee and participate in technical grant writing and partnership development with foundation partners.
Design and manage development campaigns, including development marketing and communications, hitting or exceeding select KPIs for donor growth, retention and engagement.
Identify and manage key vendors and partners for marketing, communication and other development activities.
Oversee, design and manage 28twelve development communications, tracking and management tools (i.e., Donor Dock)

QUALIFICATIONS

Ideal candidates will have:

Proven experience building and leading a successful development program and team, including:
a minimum of 5 years of relevant development or organizational management experience within a results-oriented organization with a growth-mindset.
a proven record of engagement with high net-worth donors
recruiting and developing a fundraising team with a vision for sustainable growth and increasing levels of donor engagement in every segment.
managing and producing results within each portion of a development funnel (e.g.,prospecting, cultivation, conversion, engagement and retention).
Possess a diverse set of development channels and approaches including:
major gifts & foundations
peer-to-peer (e.g., crowdfunding, fundraising events, occasions/celebrations)
alternative gifts (e.g., stocks, online, charitable trusts, planned giving)
marketing, branding and communications
Experience with development software, such as Donor Dock or Bloomerang
Demonstrate authentically a consistent track record of:
clear, cogent, and honest written and verbal communication skills
innovation, with the potential to experiment, pilot and scale
cultivating trust-based, open, and mutually-honoring relationships with colleagues - maturity in their Christian faith, fruit of the Spirit, and spiritual disciplines (e.g., Bible study, prayer and fellowship with other believers in the context of a local church)
Integrity above reproach, honesty, and trustworthiness
Master’s Degree preferred
Must endorse the Lausanne Covenant

This is a year-round, exempt position (half-time) averaging 20 hours per week. Compensation is competitive and commensurate with responsibilities and experience. Benefits eligible after 90 days of employment.
