We believe in paying people fairly, so we've established a compensation model aimed to ensure everyone at Fearless — regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability, religion, age, nationality, or negotiation skills — is given equal pay for equal work. The salary ranges for this position based on location are listed below. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified as a part of our annual salary range review.

AL, FL, GA, TN Residents: $90,015 (min) - $117,019 (mid) - $144,024 (max)
NC Residents: $92,799 (min) - $120,639 (mid) - $148,478 (max)
DE, MD, PA, TX, VA Residents: $97,439 (min) - $126,671 (mid) - $155,902 (max)
DC Residents: $109,503 (min) - $142.354 (mid) - $175,204 (max)
CA & NY Residents: $113,215 (min) - $147,179 (mid) - $181,143 (max)

Note: This role is half time 20 hours per week. Salary amounts should be viewed as half the amount listed in the compensation band. Max salaries are not guaranteed due to internal equity and project budget.

Summary

The Data Scientist II is proficient in building algorithms, data modeling, and building data-driven solutions that solve customer business problems. They are responsible for partnering with customers to perform statistical analysis and build machine learning models. The Data Scientist II support prototypes and scalable production solutions to help customers make data-driven solutions.

Responsibilities And Contributions

Organizational and Leadership Role

Functional Role

Guides team on evaluating the customer’s needs, advising on both the benefits and risks of potential artificial intelligence.
Facilitates customer understanding of the impact of AI on their operating model and develops their skills in and comfort with machine learning solutions.
Develops custom data models, algorithms, and predictive models to perform multifaceted analysis.
Builds and maintains predictive models and machine learning algorithms from the ground up to solve real-world business challenges.
Stitches, calibrates, and optimizes sparse and noisy data across various data sources.
Collaborates with various stakeholders and teams of stakeholders to understand business problems, help define them into KPIs, and deliver insightful analysis in reports or visualizations.
Conducts regular, ad-hoc data and analysis needs to better understand customer behaviors.
Supports and guides teams in running growth programs and A/B tests by analyzing results and communicating findings and insights.
Understands, monitors, and collaborates with teams to ensure ongoing data quality.
Researches industry trends, advising the customer on applicable solutions and applying them to support their organizational needs.
Works with the customer and relevant stakeholders to understand the potential impacts on the customer and the broader community of any models that are in development.

Project-specific Contributions

Algorithm Design & Development: Lead the design and development of recommendation algorithms and predictive models that enhance various features across the MyCareer NJ platform
NLP and Data Extraction: Develop and refine NLP models to accurately extract and categorize information from a wide range of text data sources, including job postings, resumes, labor market information, and educational content.
Data Manipulation & Analysis: Utilize numpy, pandas, and scipts for handling and analyzing large datasets
Integration: Collaborate with backend engineers to integrate machine learning models into the platform’s FastAPI-based backend
Cloud Deployment: machine learning models on AWS, leveraging services like S3, EC2, Lambda, and SageMaker
Performance Monitoring & Optimization
Research & Implementation: machine learning and NLP techniques to enhance the capabilities of MyCareer NJ, including exploring new ways to support users in their career development.

Must-Have Skills

Essential Skills, Experience, or Competencies

A minimum of 8 years of demonstrated related working experience
- Python Expertise: Extensive experience in Python, particularly in developing machine learning and NLP models.
- Natural Language Processing (NLP): Extensive experience in developing NLP models for processing unstructured text data.
- Data Manipulation: Strong expertise in numpy, pandas, and/or scipy for data analysis, particularly in the context of large datasets.
- Machine Learning Expertise: 3+ years of experience in machine learning, with a strong track record of developing and deploying recommendation systems.
- Cloud Platforms: Extensive experience with AWS, particularly in deploying and managing machine learning models using S3, EC2, Lambda, and SageMaker.
- Problem-Solving: analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to tackle complex technical challenges
Excellent analytical skills, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
Proficiency with deep learning tools and at least one machine learning tool, such as Hadoop, Apache Spark, TensorFlow, scikit-learn, or cloud-provider equivalents.

Ability to view data and determine what questions to ask, what assumptions to make, what algorithms to use, and how to get the biggest impact from it.
Ability to understand and respond to customer needs and collaborate as part of a cross-functional team.
Experience working in an agile environment.

Highly Desired Skills And Experience

BS in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Data Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or similar technology-related degree.
Understanding of software architecture, full-stack development, and platform solutions in the development and production of artificial intelligence that meet the mission objectives and goals of our clients.
